UEPC attends 6th High Level Tripartite Strategic Forum on Construction 2020
The European Commission held today a meeting with the construction industry to discuss an overall strategy for sustainable competitiveness of the construction sector and its enterprises.
The first part of the meeting focused on waste and circular economy aspects related to the construction sector as well as the future digitalisation of the construction sector. Specifically, the French Centre for Research and Science of Buildings (CSTB) presented their example of how they launched a digital platform in France to bring the technology and construction sector together in order to eliminate the ‘digital gap’ that exists between the two.
In the second part of the meeting, the EU Covenant of Mayors and the European PV Association (Solarpower Europe) presented other initiatives relevant for the construction sector with the aim to find potential synergies.
The main issues, that industry cited that needed to be improved in the sector, include the fact that there needs to be more financing and investment opportunities for the construction sector, the accomplishments at EU level also need to be translated into achievements at local, municipal and regional levels, and there needs to be more skills and training opportunities in the sector.
