UEPC attends Policy Breakfast on the EU Pillar of Social Rights
UEPC will attend the Policy Breakfast "EU Pillar of Social Rights: Writing a new chapter in the EU story?" at the European Committee of the Regions.
The first part of the meeting focused on 'Understanding the EU Pillar for Social Rights". Ms. Raquel Cortes Herrera, Deputy Head of Unit "Disability and Inclusion" at the European Commission, gave a presentation on the housing aspects of the Pillar of social rights. The presentation focused mainly on the Principle 19 “Housing and assistance for the homeless”. Ms. Herrera highlighted that the Pillar was not introducing new legislation but that it provided policy guidance to the Member States.
The second part of the meeting focused on "Implementing the EU Pillar for Social Rights". Lieve Fransen, Senior Adviser to European Policy Centre on health, social and migration policies, presented the report "Boosting Investment in Social Infrastructure in Europe".
Overall, the event made a link between the milestone of the Pillar of Social Rights and the access to EU funds in the post-2020 era. It also focused on the provision of affordable housing, in particular from the perspective of youth.
